Artwork description

Seen from above, a cross-shaped church stands carved entirely from the red rock around it, sunk deep within a trench cut straight into the earth. Mist rises from the surrounding gorge, softening the rough stone walls and giving the structure an otherworldly, half-hidden presence, while two tiny figures at the trench's edge give a sense of true scale. Warm dawn light rakes across the rock, picking out ochre, rust and burnt-orange tones against cooler shadows below. The composition emphasises depth and isolation, the building sitting far beneath the viewer's eye line like something unearthed rather than built. It is a striking piece of architectural storytelling, suited to a study, office or any heritage-themed room where a sense of scale and history matters.
