Hand-painted in oil on canvas
A painter mixes the colours and works the picture up over days. Stand close and the brushwork is there.
Any size you ask for
From 20 cm on the short side to 150 x 235 cm. You set the size; we price it and tell you before anything is charged.
Free worldwide shipping
Rolled in a tube, stretched ready to hang, or framed in a moulding you choose. No shipping cost, anywhere.
Close enough to see the brush
This is the difference a photograph cannot show you and a print cannot fake: paint with body, laid in the direction the subject moves.
How your commission is painted
Send the photograph, or two
One picture of the couple, or a separate portrait of each. Tell us if there is a date the gift has to meet.
Decide the background
Keep the venue, replace it with a plain ground, or set them somewhere else entirely. Confirmed in writing with your quote.
Painted in oil
Both faces painted at one scale in one light. You see photographs of the finished canvas before it ships.

Paintings we have made
Most couple commissions come from one of two places: a wedding photograph that deserves better than a frame on a shelf, or an anniversary where a print would not carry the weight of the occasion. Both work, and they are handled differently.
From a wedding photograph
Wedding photographs are usually the best source material we receive: taken by a professional, well lit, sharp. The thing to watch is what surrounds the couple. A crowded reception background can be painted out and replaced with a plain wash, a wall, or the venue itself rendered simply so that the two faces carry the picture. Decide that before the painting starts.
From two separate photographs
The couple does not have to be in one picture. We are often sent two portraits taken years apart, or one photograph from each person's own youth, to be painted as though they were together. Send both, say which one sets the light and the setting, and we build one canvas from them.
Anniversaries, and the version of you that was
A common request, and a good one: painting a couple as they were fifty years ago from a photograph of the day they married, given to them on the anniversary. Old photographs are workable more often than people assume. Grain, sepia and small damage are not obstacles; a face out of focus is.
Size and setting
Two figures want more canvas than one. A couple in head and shoulders reads well from about 60 x 80 cm; a full-length pair, or a couple set in a landscape, wants 100 cm or more on the long side. We paint from around 20 cm on the short side up to 150 x 235 cm. You choose the setting: a plain ground, the place you met, the venue, or a landscape entirely of your choosing.
Delivery and time
Free worldwide shipping, rolled in a tube, stretched ready to hang, or framed in a moulding you choose. Production usually takes one to four weeks depending on size and complexity. If the painting is a gift with a date attached, say so in your first message: we will tell you plainly whether the date is achievable before you commit.
Send us your photograph
Tell us the size you have in mind and attach the picture you want painted. An advisor replies with a price and a timeline, and nothing is charged until you agree to both.
Questions before you commission
Can you paint a couple from two separate photographs?
Yes. Send a clear picture of each person, taken at any time, and say which one should set the light and the setting. We paint them into one canvas as though they had been photographed together.
Can you paint out a busy wedding background?
Yes, and it is usually the right call. A crowded reception behind the couple can become a plain wash of colour, a wall, or the venue rendered simply so the two faces carry the picture. Decide it before painting starts.
Can you work from an old wedding photograph?
Usually. Grain, sepia tones and small physical damage can all be worked around. What cannot be recovered is a face that is out of focus. Send it and we will tell you honestly before you commit.
What size suits a couple portrait?
Two figures want more canvas than one. Head and shoulders reads well from about 60 x 80 cm; a full-length pair or a couple in a landscape wants 100 cm or more on the long side.
I need it for an anniversary. Can you meet a date?
Tell us the date in your first message. Production usually runs one to four weeks, and we will say plainly whether your date is achievable before you commit rather than promise and miss it.
Can you change what they are wearing?
Yes. Clothing can be taken from another photograph or described in words, and is agreed with your advisor before painting begins.
