Artwork description

Hypnos reclines on an ornate marble throne beneath a deep indigo night sky, his great dark wings folded behind him and a crescent moon glowing above distant hills and sea. In one hand he holds a spray of red poppies, in the other a small vessel, while at his feet and along the balcony sleeping figures lie draped in heavy robes, lost in dreams he has sent them. Stone columns and an olive branch frame the scene, oil lamps flickering against the night, and a far-off city glimmers along the water's edge. The palette moves between deep blues, muted purples and warm lamplight gold, lending the whole composition a hushed, otherworldly calm. This is a painting for a bedroom or a quiet study, wherever stillness and myth belong on the wall. Hand-painted in oil on canvas and made to order in the size you choose, it brings a classical, dreamlike atmosphere into any room.
