A Punjabi woman laughs toward the viewer in this portrait, painted in the style of Van Gogh with thick, directional strokes. She wears a pale golden head wrap, a gold drop earring and a stack of bangles on one wrist, and her other hand rises beside her face. Her olive-gold jacket with round buttons is built from short strokes of green, ochre and orange, and a red bindi and red lips pick up the warmest notes. Behind her the blue background curls into swirls flecked with white.
