Sports Oil Paintings

Sport painted well is about the moment before or after, not the trophy. A swimmer alone in a mountain lake at first light. A dancer in the wings, not on stage. A sandlot game going on past the point anyone is keeping score. That is what this collection is built from.

What is in this collection

Around eighty paintings across four kinds of subject. Racket and field sports covers a serve on Wimbledon centre court and a match at a garden club, along with baseball on a dusty sandlot at sunset. Endurance holds a long-distance runner on a coastal cliff path at dusk and an open-water swimmer at dawn. Climbing and motorsport takes in a boulder problem at sunrise in a red rock canyon and a racer leaning into a hairpin. Dance is its own group, and the rehearsal scenes in dim wings are among the best paintings here.

Most are set at the edges of the day, when low light does more for a figure in motion than stadium floodlight ever will.

How each painting is made

Nothing here is printed. Each canvas is painted in oils after you order it, by an artist working from the reference on the page, which is why the lead time runs in weeks and no two are identical.

You set the dimensions rather than choosing from a fixed list. Three finishes are available: Simple for a clean, even surface, Texture for visible brushwork, and Museum for the heaviest impasto.

Choosing one for a room

A single figure in motion holds an upright canvas well and suits a hallway, a home gym or a stairwell. Field and court scenes want width, and enough size that the figures are not reduced to marks: below about fifty centimetres on the short side a distant player stops reading as a person.

These work in a club room, a changing room or an office as easily as at home. Tell us the wall and we will suggest a proportion.
