يميل سائق عربة بخوذة مكسوة بالريش وسترة حمراء بقوة عند المنعطف، رافعاً سوطه فوق رأسه، يقود أربعة خيول مجهدة حول الشكل البيضاوي المكتظ للسيرك الأعظم. يتصاعد الغبار تحت وقع الحوافر بينما تقترب عربة ثانية من الخلف، سائقها منحني فوق العنانين. ترتفع المدرجات الحجرية المتدرجة من الجانبين، ممتلئة بمتفرجين بعيدين، بينما تحدد الأعمدة الطويلة الساقية المركزية في منتصف المضمار. الضوء ساطع ومغبر، تسيطر درجات الذهبي والبني الدافئ على الأرض والحيوانات، في مقابل سماء باهتة مخططة بالغيوم. الطاقة فورية ومادية، أقرب إلى الحدث من منظر واسع للاستاد، لتضع المشاهد تقريباً في غبار السباق نفسه. مرسومة يدوياً بالزيت على قماش، وتُنفذ حسب المقاس الذي تختاره، تجلب هذه القطعة الحركة الخام والروعة القديمة إلى مكتب أو ركن أو جدار معرض.
