يجلس حاكم روماني غارقًا في التفكير على عرش خشبي منحوت، وذقنه مستندة على يده، مرتديًا توغا حمراء غنية مطرزة بالذهب. أعمدة حجرية وستائر ذهبية ثقيلة تؤطر الغرفة خلفه، بينما مزهرية برونزية على طاولة جانبية تلتقط الضوء الدافئ الخافت. اللوحة الهادئة من المغرة والأحمر الداكن والحجر المظلل تعطي المشهد جوًا ثقيلًا خاصًا، كما لو أن المشاهد دخل دون دعوة إلى لحظة من القوة الهادئة والتأمل. تعبيره الثابت غير المقروء يوحي بالحساب بدلاً من الراحة، وهو مناسب لرجل في قلب السلطة الرومانية. التكوين يفضل المزاج والشخصية على الحركة، مبني من ضوء دقيق وقماش غني محكم. مرسومة يدويًا بالزيت على قماش وتُصنع حسب الطلب بالحجم الذي تختاره، تناسب هذه اللوحة دراسة أو مكتبًا أو جدار مكتبة، وتضيف جاذبية كلاسيكية إلى التصميمات الداخلية ذات الخشب الداكن واللون الغني.
