手漕ぎボートの船首から見たヴァラナシのガートが、かすんだ朝日の下、ガンジス川に沿って広がり、その淡い円盤が水面の低くに輝いている。赤、青、黄、オレンジの色とりどりの傘の列が石段に並び、巡礼者や行商人を日差しから守り、背後には寺院の尖塔や要塞の塔が暖かな黄土色の石でそびえている。前景では数隻の木製ボートが水面を横切り、その反映が黄金の水面に揺らめき、煙の細い筋が漂っている。雰囲気は忙しいが穏やかで、柔らかく輝く光の中で日々の儀式に満ちている。暖かな金色と茶色が支配的で、傘の散在する明るさによって引き立てられている。手描きの油彩キャンバスで、ご希望のサイズでオーダーメイド。この川沿いの眺めは、暖かな光と重なり合う細部が長い鑑賞を誘うリビングルームや廊下に最適です。
