في هذه اللوحة الزيتية المرسومة يدويًا على القماش، يظهر هرقل في قتال متلاحم مع الأسد النيمي، كلاهما منخفض على الأرض بينما يزأر الأسد ويخدش بينما يجبره البطل على إرجاع رأسه بذراعيه العاريتين. يلتف قماش أحمر عميق حول خصره، كنقطة لون حادة ضد الجلد المحروق بالشمس ومعطف الأسد الأشقر. خلفهما، تمتد جبال وعرة وسماء شاحبة مغطاة بالغيوم إلى البعيد، مما يعطي الصراع إحساسًا معزولًا وعنصريًا، كما لو كان القتال يحدث بعيدًا عن أي بلدة أو شاهد. ضربات الفرشاة فضفاضة وحيوية حول لبدة الحيوان، مشدودة إلى نمذجة دقيقة على عضلات هرقل، فينتقل العين طبيعيًا بين الغضب والسيطرة. مرسومة بالزيت على القماش وتُصنع حسب الطلب بالمقاس الذي تختاره، تجلب دراما أسطورية خام إلى مدخل أو مكتب أو أي جدار مبني على القوة والقصة.
