ترتفع ثلاثة صلبان أمام سماء عاصفة داكنة فوق أسوار القدس القديمة. المسيح معلق في الوسط، يلتقط ضوءًا شاحبًا شكله، ويحيط به اللصان الملعونان. بالأسفل، يقف الجنود الرومان وهم يرتدون دروعًا برونزية حاملين الرماح والدروع بينما تجثو شخصيات حزينة، بينهم مريم بثوبها الأزرق الداكن، في حزن عند قدم الصليب. الألوان قاتمة، سحب بلون الفحم، أرض بلون الصدأ، ودرجات لون البشرة باهتة، يقطعها فقط توهج ناعم حول المسيح. إنه مشهد سكون عميق وسط حزن طاغ، مرسوم بتباين درامي بين الظلام والنور. تحمل هذه اللوحة ثقل الإخلاص وتناسب كنيسة صغيرة أو غرفة صلاة أو أي مكان هادئ مخصص للتأمل. مرسومة يدويًا بالزيت على قماش، وتُصنع حسب الطلب بالحجم الذي تختاره، بحيث يمكن لهذه اللحظة المقدسة أن تملأ جدارك كما تتخيلها تمامًا.
